Reivew of Bridget Riley, The Curve Paintings 1961-2014

Critical review of a survey of Bridget Riley's Curve Paintings, at De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill, June-Sept 2015. The review argues that Riley's oevre is characterized by a tension between a potetntially disruptive opticality, on the one hand, and a sober formalism, on the other; the curation of surveys like this seems dedicated to concealing this basic tension, which is what is most interesting in Riley's body of work.
