Jaffa Bollywood part 2
Statement: “Jaffa Bollywood.”
Jaffa Bollywood – a video clip made of two parts, is 10 minutes long. The city of Jaffa was built 4 thousand years BC by Yeffet the son of Noah according to Jewish fable. It was one of three major port cities on the Eastern Coast of the Mediterranean until the establishment of the state of Israel. Control over Jaffa repeatedly changed hands throughout the centuries. The city remained a portal to the Holy Land for Christian and Jewish pilgrims despite being destroyed and re-built many times over. At the start of the 19th c. Jaffa was predominantly Arab in population with Jewish nationalist (Zionist) immigration increasing. Growth in its Jewish population created tension in the city between nationalists on both the Jewish and Arab sides which motivated establishment of the adjacent city of Tel-Aviv at the start of the 20th century. (Artist's statement, 2006).
