[Morning] Movement for parks and pavements
Materials: public parks, public, performer
Dimensions: various
Note: In [Morning] Movement for parks and pavements we bring together a performer in search of a park with a park in need of a performer. We bring the charisma and energy of aerobics instructor Che Hyungun together with the dry statistical data of a Community Parks Survey. We bring the fact that Che Hyungun – who teaches a daily class in Jayu Park, Incheon – needs more work to increase his monthly income together with the fact that the Community Parks Survey identified seven parks in Seoul as dysfunctional; under-used, and, or under-resourced. We bring these facts together through providing Che Hyungun with the opportunity to perform across these seven parks in an attempt to; find a public, establish a demand from the local community that he perform, demonstrate this to Seoul Metropolitan Government acquire a contract of employment, and ultimately transform – over time – one or more of these seven parks. Beginning each performance at 7am, Che Hyungun worked through a 30-minute fitness routine suitable for all ages as he attempted to mobilize and motivate a public to perform with him. This series of performances led to one community wanting to work with Che Hyungun and to a contract of employment from Seoul Metropolitan Government
