Willing the Possible
Willing the Possible featured four films by five women artists, each presenting a cinematic mediation on geopolitical conflict and its fallout. The conceptual framework of the exhibition borrowed methods for conflict resolution from Narrative Family Therapy and translated its techniques to the film exhibition context. The curatorial methodology concerned facilitating multiplicity in the construction of conflict narratives and encouraging face-to-face contact. In the exhibition context can the encounter between film objects and film viewers be thought of as just such a face-to-face contact? How can film offer a site for collective narrative plotting and activate a way of thinking through conflicting positions with one another?
The exhibition featured works by Rosalind Nashashibi, Sasha Litvintseva, Jumana Manna and Sille Storihle, Emma Leach and was supported by the Arts Council England.
Curated by Minou Norouzi for MARSistanbul and Sheffield Fringe.
