Collective Learning in the Feminist Duration Reading Group
The talk focuses on the Feminist Duration Reading Group which has gathered since March 2015 to discuss under-known and under-valued texts, ideas and struggles from outside the Anglo-American feminist canon. In addition to introducing some of the key tenets and practices that the group has explored, Reckitt reflects on the format of reading out loud together, and on how the group functions as a framework for supporting shared research, learning, and responsibility. Resonating with the themes of the symposium ‘FRIENDSHIP | SOLIDARITY | ALLIANCES,’ she considers how the group befriends earlier periods of feminist thought, writing and collective action, and how friendship functions as a central premise of the group’s operations.

The keynote was given as part of the focus on 'Allies, Friends, and Comrades' alongside lectures by Zdenka Badovinac, Grégory Castéra, Céline Condorelli, Ade Darmawan (Ruangrupa), Hou Hanru, Maria Lind, Andrea Phillips, and Cesare Pietroiusti. The research project The Independent identifies and promotes social spaces for independent thinking. Coinciding with the museum’s 10th anniversary, the summit explores the power of friendship, solidarity and alliances. By bringing together actors from the art world and beyond, the summit aims to address how independent spaces and art projects question the conventions of cultural legitimacy, analysing reasons for, and means by which they organise support structures, encourage forms of solidarity and foster alliances. FRIENDSHIP | SOLIDARITY | ALLIANCES is divided into four chapters, characterised by different content and duration: Solidarity and Interdependent Transformation are discussion-based, Movements proposes performative interventions, and Becoming a Collective body, a comprehensive film programme. |
