For nineteen years Haymarket have published paperback editions of the Historical Materialism book series. Making available the best work in international Marxist theory, the series has published 300 books in all areas and from every corner of the world: monographs, translations, collections of documents and reissues of classics. Many more are planned. From the newest thinking to influential works that have never appeared in English, the HM series is the most important venture in non-sectarian Marxist publishing since the 1970s.
Since 2021 Haymarket have been collaborating with artist David Mabb to redesign HM books. Mabb works with the iconographies of socialist thought, blending or holding in suspension, different trends in the hope that something new will yet emerge: Constructivism and the Arts & Crafts; abstraction and free form; biopolitics and machine vision; growth and planning… Mabb’s clean, modern design is the ideal parallel for the HM series committed to non-sectarian and innovative thinking.
