No Ma

Article about the project No Ma, including a selection of photographic portraits and biographical texts, about women who are not mothers and are certain that they never will be. These women may not have had children because they simply didn’t want to, or because they were unable to due to either fertility or health issues, or because of other factors in their lives. This project seeks to understand what it means for different women not to be mothers and how this affects the way they see themselves. Can the issue of maternity generate certain feelings of lack of biological and/or personal achievement? On the other hand, what potential is there for a woman to have a life and an identity separate from motherhood?
