Research Visits to The Silk Museum in Macclesfield, U.K..
[Professional Activity]
Research into the materiality and affects of silk, as a part of a planned AHRC Curiosity award application. An investigation of Silk, it’s history, processing and manufacture and materiality, together with the artefacts and diaries of silk heiress Marianne Brocklehurst and her partner Mary Booth, in order to make new connections between Queer Feminist Materialisms, class and desire. The full collection of the Museum's swatch and pattern books will be made available from mid February 2024, alongside the opening of the restored Silk Mill and silk workshops. A visit on 19th January 2024 took place in order to view the diaries of Mary Booth and Marianne Brocklehurst.
