The 2nd in a series of films that explores legacies of coloniality, through the re-collection and re-enactment of the visit of the first Miss Ghana to Britain in March 1957. This particular iteration takes the Queen and her companion Miss Great Britain to Ladbrooke Grove, where she meets with long-time resident Colin Prescod. Prescod, who is a filmmaker, and former Chair of the Institute for Race Relations, takes the visitors to a number of sites around the neighbourhood, including the home of Amy Ashwood Garvey also Prescod's first home when he arrived in the U.K. There are also stops at the site of the brutal beating of Kelso Cochrane, Portobello Road to commemorate the beginnings of the Notting Hill Carnival, the site of the former Mangrove Restaurant and to the site under the Westway that has been created as a sanctuary space for the surviving residents of the Grenfell Tower Fire, their neighbours, friends and families.
This work was made in 2017 for Starless Midnight an exhibition at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, curated by Edgar Arceneaux and Laurence Sillars. Starless Midnight brought together a number of artists work to reflect on the legacies of Dr Martin Luther King in the year of celebration of 50 years since Dr King received his honorary degree from Newcastle University.
In 2019 this work was shown at Get Up, Stand Up Now: Generations of Black Creative Pioneers. This large group exhibition explored Black British creativity through reflection on the work of the filmmaker Horace Ové. This exhibition was curated by Zac Ové
