These Shoots Need to Grow: An invocation by Asadua
This improvised invocation/ performance by Asadua opened Sensing the Planet, a programme of talks, performances, installations, films and more, presented at the Dartington Trust, Dorset 29–31 Oct 2021. Curated by Amal Khalaf (Serpentine Gallery) and Ashish Ghadiali, Sensing the Planet was a response to COP 36, a proposition for a decolonial approach to climate collapse that explored the intersections of race, art, ecology and climate justice.
Asadua is a loose collective of artists and musicians brought together by Barby Asante. They come together to make performances through improvisation, poetry and ritual. Asadua means "turning sour into sweetness" and is Barby's Akan middle name.
