[Conference or Workshop Item]
We extend resource scarcity theorisation to families, an important unit of consumption. Compared to individuals, family responses allow for more flexibility in adjusting consumption and resource investment. Drawing on qualitative interviews, we find scarcity-inducing life events prompt short-term adjustments in consumption and longer-term shifts in resource investment across family members.
