Turning Your Back On
“Turning Your Back On”, a video lecture / lecture performance by Sophie Seita, commissioned for Texte zur Kunst.
"A lecture performance about backs, the artist's back, backs in art, and the art of the back, which is also the art of obstacles, desire, and specifically the artist's desire to seek out this art of the obstacle, forms of attention that are resistant and not immediate, the ethics of regarding the back rather than the face, new types of sensory, even sensual, approaches to looking, listening, and making — on’ rather than ‘off’ …"
As a practical extension of our discussion around the topic of “Lecture” in TEXTE ZUR KUNST #136, we invited six artists and scholars to produce a short video lecture on a subject of their choice, reflecting on their own presentational approaches, structures, rhetorics, and methodologies. Unlike the direct encounter between speaker and audience, online lectures are closely linked to their media conditions.
Each video lecture is accompanied by a questionnaire in the print issue #136.
