Disgusting Dwoskin [Vedervärdige Dwoskin]

This essay explores tensions between feminist and disability politics, particularly around disgust and sexual autonomy, as they play out in Stephen Dwoskin's film The Sun And The Moon (2003). Dwoskin was a friend and collaborator with Laura Mulvey, and adapted notions of the cinematic gaze to trouble the relations of power between the objectified woman and the disabled man, often forced into a position as onlooker from the sidelines of the sexual economy. This reading of the film engages with notions of sexual disgust from Georges Bataille, Jonathan Dollimore and ideas of the gaze from Mulvey, Kaja Silverman and Paul Willemen.
