Archie Chekatouski: You Can Do So Much More With A Chair Than A Painting, Goswell Road, Paris, October 2024

This text was written for Archie Chekatouski's solo show at Paris gallery Goswell Road. The text is delivered in a comic style to reflect the artist's own satirical take on art as commodity and useful object, from Manzoni to Franz West. The essay lightly touches upon the question of whether art which takes the commodity form, in order to critique commodities, doesn't try to have its cake and eat it. This argument then proceeds into the question of whether accessibility risks undermining the intellectual pretensions so dear to much conceptual art.
