Fractal Meat on a Spongy Bones with Chooc Ly on NTS radio
Episode 226 of Fractal Meat on a Spongy Bone broadcasts on Monday night / Tuesday morning 10th June 2025, from 01:00 to 03:00 UK time.
The first hour of the show, I dissected the medium of sound by bringing together the noise, textured, field recordings, playfully processed sound/music that push the limits of experimentation.
I played quite a few tracks from artists who have released on the Chinabot label, as I’m a fan and affiliated with the label. For the rest, they are artists I admire and who inspire me a lot!
The mix includes two exclusive new music compositions:
'Chooc Ly – ព្រះច័ន្ទ (lune) (unreleased)'
This is a sound experiment I did with turntablism. The typo is of Khmer language (the spoken language in Cambodia. My father is from Cambodia and so it’s a way for me to honour my roots).
'Nasrah Omar, Syan Hu, Akin Sanjayan – Imagined Currents'
This short soundscape is a result of a Sonic Friction workshop I did with these 3 artists (students) at the RCA (Royal College of Art), on speculating about how the future might sound like. So it’s also an unreleased recording.
The second hour of the show is another Fractal Meat mixture by artist/composer/radiobroadcaster/Experimental Sound art Lecturer (Mary Ward Centre) Graham Dunning, presenting left field electronic music, improvisation, turntablism and more.
