Weaving the Strands of African and Caribbean Diaspora is an online collaborative interactive exploration of media and diaspora. It is a poetry-based celebration of the globally local strands of the Deptford and New Cross African and Caribbean diaspora as perceived by first year undergraduate Sociology students studying Culture and Society at Goldsmiths University of London. Crafted and Afro-scripted into long-form poetry the students’ semiological study of Afro hairdressing traces the tresses of Deptford and New Cross as a globally local space for the elaborate acculturation of Black Britishness.

The principal researcher is Dr. Pamela Odih and the research is funded by a British Academy and Leverhulme Trust award (2024/25).

The event is held online on Wednesday 16th July 2025.
