This chapter discusses safeguarding concerns for black children who have been sexually abused. It starts by outlining the definition of child sexual abuse, before moving on to consider the occurrence of sexual abuse within black families. Its primary concern is to explore a number of issues that affect black children who have been sexually abused. The chapter also discusses some of the factors that impact disclosures, and considers the effects of sexual abuse on black children’s emotional and psychological development, as well as the impact on parent-child relationships. The chapter concludes with suggestions to effectively engage black families.
