"Future" in The Bloomsbury Handbook of 21st Century Feminist Theory

This chapter takes the Xenofeminist Manifesto by Laboria Cuboniks as a starting point to reflect on the potentiality of cyber- and technofeminism to project and remake a future in the 21st century. By focusing on two key concepts of the manifesto, being in vertigo and alienation, and discussing them in relation to queer theory, inhumanism and Afrofuturism we propose an Alien Feminism that is driven by trans, machinic, and other bodies, and at the same time by the very question of what it is to have a body. Alien Feminism, as we will suggest, is committed to building a futurity, an alien future-as-difference from the creative impossibility of the future.
