Speculative Feminist Ciné Geography

How does an archive go from a mere repository to a living resource that facilitates a speculative political practice in the present? NICOLE WOLF, a cultural producer and senior lecturer for visual culture at Goldsmiths College, University of London, explores this question through the collection of the Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art in Berlin. Her lecture invites us to make connections between various archives of political cinema, and thus speculate on the filmic proximity of locations of radical change that are temporally and spatially distinct. Examples of feminist narrative are set in relation to one another in order to plumb their potential for the present-day and future creation of worlds both real and fictional. Fiction and collective aesthetic experiences can thereby not only expand political thought, but also have an influence on political practice.
