A contributon to the second volume of the Refugee Tales series, an initiative of David Herd of the University of Kent and Anna Pincus of the Gatwich Detainees Support Group. Refugee Tales invite writers to produce stories and testimonies based on conversations with refugees and people working to support them. This chapter is based on my visits to the Drop-In Centre for Asylum Seekers run by the New North London Synagogue, and my conversations with various volunteers and organisers.
