Penrhyn Castle is a National Trust owned, mock-Norman Victorian Castle, which actually means, it is a brick country house covered in an elaborate façade. The site is contentious. Built by an English plantation and quarry owner responsible for the second longest strike in history, the site is hated by most that surround it. However, others love the house and the family, and when visiting the site this complexity gets simplified or selected in order to make it manageable and attractive. I was interested in drawing out these complex histories and finding alternative ways they could be discussed and adopted into the official history of this bizarre fantasy architecture.
