Paperweight Radio: Plastic (S2, EP6)
This live radio discussion broadcast on Resonance 104.4fm brought together artists, designers, architects, curators, historians, theorists, writers and scientists to discuss topics within the fields of visual and material culture.
I was producer and host of the series and of the individual broadcasts, work which included conceiving of the concept for the series, developing the themes, identifying and booking guests, conducting pre-show interviews and research, drafting scripts and training guests for radio presentation of their work. I was also host of the live shows, introducing themes and topics and interviewing the guests.
In this episode on Mixed Media, featured guests include material scientist Paul Tangney on the history and material properties of plastic; sociologists Dominik Bartmanski and Ian Woodward on the rise of vinyl in the digital age; art historian Matt Lodder on plastic surgery in fine art practice; communications scholar Emily Yochim on young men and skateboard culture; and archaeologist Sara Perry on the plasticity of media in the curator-audience relationship.
