This article explores the impact of a school with a 'no permanent exclusions' policy on young people with social, emotional and behavioural support needs. An in-depth qualitative research study concluded that a relational approach, strong and secure attachments, and a commitment to group work facilitate a community of young people who go on to thrive and achieve success in their lives. The findings of this research has implications for policy and practice around exclusion in schools more broadly.
