Attending to the physicist, historian, linguist and political activist Cheikh Anta Diop's forecasts for the industrialization of the African continent in the era of decolonization provides a perspective upon Diop's participation in and divergence from the historical archaeologies of future studies, modernization theories and anti colonial nationalism that each sought to intervene in the political struggles over the influence and direction of possible futures within and beyond the orbit of the Global Cold War.
