The Artworld. A Tourist Guide by Yaiza Hernández Velázquez – The Coming South

This paper examines the intimate relationship between the infrastructures and visual cultures of contemporary art and tourism. Leaving aside the idea of a "cultural tourism" through which that relationship is normally examined, this paper suggests that during the expansionist phase of both transnational tourism and contemporary art, both industries developed structures that share, on the one hand, typological similitudes and, on the other, a similarly extractivist way of mediating relationships between local and global networks and markets.
