This golf ball is designed to be used in Martian gravity. As Martian gravity is weaker than Earths, this golf ball feels heavy when held on Earth.
It forms part of an ongoing project by Bethany Rigby on Golf and outer space, developing a speculative narrative that the first terraforming on Mars will be the creation of golf courses for interplanetary travelling billionaires.
The martian golf ball is hand-cast pewter and produced as part of group exhibition 'SoftWorks' at Avalon Cafe, London, curated by Sarah Vowden.
This piece is part of a wider practice of imagining alternative futures for extra terrestrial landscapes beyond extractive ends.
