Mining The Skies
Mining the Skies is a sculptural display of geological samples first commissioned for the 17th International Architecture Exhibition in 2021, and re-articulated for an exhibition at The Zeppelin Museum titled Into The Deep: Mines Of the Future, curated by Ina Neddermeyer and Claudia Emmert in 2023.
The samples related to current research and discourse on extra terrestrial mining- they include simulants from the European Space Agency, personal collections from mining entrepeneurs, samples from planetary geologists’ research, and biomining leachate from researchers at the Natural History Museum, London.
It is a critique on extractive attitudes towards these new landscapes, and invites audiences to reflect on terrestrial mining practices and visions of the future.
