parergons

Redhead, L. 2015. parergons. [Composition]
Copy

parergons is both concerned with material and with the framing of material. There are two types of material: quasi-unison sections in which the trio articulate fragmented chords drawn from interlocking musical patterns and processes that are never seen to completion, and quasi-contrapuntal sections in which interlocking isorhythmic materials are articulated in partly free- or uncoordinated time and further fragmented through the use of unstable playing techniques. The piece interchanges between these two types of materials without resolving them with each other.
