The American Photographer Walker Evans, although best known for his images of 1930s and 40s America, was a prolific taker of Polaroids. In the early 1970s, he embarked on a project to put together a book of letters, each taken from locations of vernacular U.S. culture. Although unfinished, the project speaks to Evans' interest in the potential of signage, road markings, and advertising - a new language of things used, commodified, and yet to Evans - intrinsically beautiful.
