Through the inclusion of sustainable themes, practice and resources the reader will gain an understanding of how art departments can be more environmentally conscious. Through a range of suggested resources and materials the author proposes a variety of inspiring schemes of work that utilise environmentally friendly practices and these are illustrated with case studies. A cross curricular approach, including STEAM is proposed as a coherent and exciting way to teach sustainable, environmental and ecological knowledge and skills. Furthermore, the role that art & design can play in promoting student agency is explored alongside the benefits to the students’ thinking in other subject areas and outside the classroom.
